WHAT IS IT
A spiced rum spirit from Adelaide Hills Distillery, this is a rum spirit that is carefully distilled from sugar cane and molasses. Unlike some commercial spiced rums, this is not driven by vanilla and sweetness and uses no artificial flavours or aromatics. Instead it uses pot distilled distillates from both sugar cane and molasses and blends traditional rum spices with Australian native ingredients such as bush tomato, lemon myrtle, Riverland oranges, lemon aspen, native pepper berry and locally roasted coffee beans. The resulting spirit is slightly sweetened with bush honey and Australian demerara sugar. Cinnamon myrtle shines through on the nose with hints of chocolate, vanilla and citrus. The palate is savoury and refined with a lingering hazelnut finish.
In 2016, the rum spirit won a silver medal at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Alcoholic strength – 40% ABV
WHO'S BEHIND IT?
Adelaide Hills Distillery was founded in the year 2014 by Sacha La Forgia. Prior to starting the distillery, the local wine maker travelled all over the world for 6 years, learning about distilling. During his stay in Italy, he was encouraged by his mentor to start his own distillery in Australia. After a successful 2015, the distillery teamed up with The Hills Cider Company, a local company launched in 2010. Now producing not just a gin, but a spiced rum spirit and an orange style aperitif, the distillery has already seen success by winning a gold, silver and bronze at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition for its gin, spiced rum spirit and aperitif respectively.
