WHAT IS IT
The 78˚ Degrees gin is a London Dry Style gin from the house of Adelaide Hills Distillery. Using a grape spirit as a base, the gin is produced in small batches and vapour distilled using the distillery's column and basket distillation method; this enables the spirit to retain its delicate aromas and flavours from a unique blend of twelve botanicals, including coriander, orange, lemon, lime, clove, cinnamon, black pepper, nutmeg, star anise, orris and angelica. The botanicals are never heated above 78.1˚ to ensure the aroma is not destroyed by heat hence the name for the gin. This is a pungently aromatic gin that displays citrus, resinous and floral notes with an underlying spice element. In 2016, the gin won a gold medal at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Alcoholic strength – 42% ABV
WHO'S BEHIND IT?
Adelaide Hills Distillery was founded in the year 2014 by Sacha La Forgia. Prior to starting the distillery, the local wine maker travelled all over the world for 6 years, learning about distilling. During his stay in Italy, he was encouraged by his mentor to start his own distillery in Australia. After a successful 2015, the distillery teamed up with The Hills Cider Company, a local company launched in 2010. Now producing not just a gin, but a spiced rum spirit and an orange style aperitif, the distillery has already seen success by winning a gold, silver and bronze at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition for its gin, spiced rum spirit and aperitif respectively.
